Useless for anyone other than a high school freshman, not a true short guide, and a lot of the info. has nothing to do with CMS. Try this free, academic website instead: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/717/01/

This is not helpful at all. I literally never use it. The print is TINY and the info included is not what you want. Every time I try to use it, I have to search to find what I'm looking for - there's too much obscure info you don't need in a quick guide and not enough of the basic info you're looking for.

I bought this "quick study" when I purchased the full volume Chicago Manual of Style. It's laminated and fits easily in a top desk drawer, notebook, or computer bag. It also is punched to fit in a three-ring binder. If you are familiar with CMS, then you know that it's a weighty volume that doesn't transport easily. This quick reference is useful, and I especially appreciate the tactics for overcoming biased language and achieving gender neutrality. This reference can be oddly vague, such as the document layout guideline, "Use italics where italics are meant." Isn't that the purpose of a reference -- to inform when italics are to be used? Overall, it's worth the purchase.

This is pretty handy; however, they add unnecessary information and have not completely updated the quick reference for internet resources, presentations, or other sources I was looking to cite. As a generic reference, it was handy. As a comprehensive "this is how you cite each thing" (I expected a sample citation for each source type), the quick reference fell short. If creating a non-comprehensive quick reference, an explained standardized format would be helpful for individuals to assess probable interpretations in lieu of detailed overviews.

I bought this reference for use in the production of papers for a master`s program. There was a gap of about 30 years between undergrad and graduate programs so a handy reference seemed a good idea. It is quite a useful took and I highly recommend it to all students regardless of academic level.

This is a very quick and easy reference to have for common questions. Basically, it's six pages (front and back) laminated, punched, and folded so that it can be placed in a binder. Two whole pages are dedicated to citations: footnotes, bibliographies, etc. The rest addresses tricky situations like gender neutrality and oft-confused words.The font is small but not unreadable. The layout is easy to navigate. There's a lot of information but it's not overwhelming. I bought this for myself, but it will be good for the children as they go through primary and secondary school.

If you care enough about the CMS to be reading this review, you already know the full manual is not something most people would carry around. I carry this quick study guide in my backpack, and I've found it useful for refreshing my memory about items like punctuation. Unless you write or edit only at your home or office where you can keep the full manual, I recommend that you buy this guide. And even if you do work where you keep the manual, it's worth the price.

I've needed this when the terms of submittal are that the piece be in the Chicago Manual of Style Guidelines (Quick Study). It should be noted though, that a person needs to read the full textbook and understand it, as these are VERY abbreviated guidelines. It does say "Quick Study." In my opinion, it should say "Quick Reminders."

Perfect for our purposes. I homeschool my seven year old, and he is doing really well with this book so far. Has all of the alphabet and numbers, simple words to practice combinations, and jokes written in cursive to practice reading.

Great product to teach cursive handwriting that's not taught in our schools anymore! Would recommend for anyone learning to write cursive. I bought for my 6th grade son who works on it as he has time.

It is definitely the kind of book you would want to read more than once.Also, I would say the way it is laid out, it is easy to find the immediate chapters that apply to what you need to deal with right now, whether it's a PR flap or an immediate PR opportunity. It is nicely tied in to marketing as well, and shows the relationship between the two and how they work together.

Great book with a lot of info packed in there. Definitely worth the money. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish it was updated. It's already several years old and things change quickly in this industry!

The beginning of this book was so interesting. I loved the stories of her busking on the street, meeting interesting people (including Neil Gaiman) and getting started with her band. Amanda has a great writing voice and the message really hit home for me since I have a hard time asking for help. I think this is something that is not talked about enough--that most people actually LIKE being asked for advice, and don't mind doing favors if they are asked nicely and thanked properly.However, since this was the point of the book, she gave example after example of it. She asks people for places to stay when she's on tour, asks fans for lyric ideas on Twitter, asks people to play with her band for free during shows, asks fans to fund her next album. And I get it--if you don't like that she does that, all you need to do is not give her money.However, it got OLD. She asked for this thing, and got it, and didn't that work out great? Same with this other thing! She also asked people for that, and they delivered! Wonderful! And then, this other thing, she wasn't sure if she should ask, but then she did, and...guess what?You get the picture.Surely there were times when she was asked for favors as well, and was happy to give them? I'm hoping this was the case and she just didn't want to brag too much. Because it comes off a little selfish to hear about all these times of people helping her and very few instances of her helping back.If you are a huge fan of AP and would like to know every detail about her career, then by all means, this book is for you. I enjoy her music but I was far more interested in reading a memoir about an interesting life. And after the first half, I just could not find her life that interesting.

This book was recommended to me as a primer on asking. Being okay with receiving help. How Amanda Palmer has taken that to such a high level is enlightening, although I still can't decide if she's brave and smart or naive and innocent.What an interesting book on many levels. On one, it's the coming-of-age memoir of an odd, bright kid. On another, the struggle of a performer/musician from barely feeding herself to international fame (and deciding to reject the traditional recording label to return to indie--that was fascinating.) On another, it's the memoir of a woman who has developed the ability to ask for and receive help, and yet one of the greatest challenges of her life is to allow herself to accept monetary help from her wealthy husband. On another, it's a businesswoman's depiction of how to build and grow a business, and her version of that her fans are really her partners. She's so involved with them I don't see how a person could really have a family at that pace, and I think she's okay with that.Palmer alternates introspection and musing about life's lessons with anecdotes about her life. The book is well-paced, fascinating, interesting, dramatic, funny, horrifying. I shed tears more than once. My takeaway/bit of life learning from the book: the act of receiving is an art, a life skill. So many of us are ashamed to receive, when in fact it's an act of love to receive well. It's not easy. We feel unworthy or guilty or obligated when we receive, but that's a waste of grace. I'm going to work on that. I enjoyed the book immensely.

I professionally beg. That is, I'm an artist. I beg people to share my art with others, and I beg people to enjoy my art with me. Amanda Palmer and i have parallel lives. While she was nervous about marrying a well-known writer, and accepting financial help from him, I was married to a well-known musician and learning to accept help from him. My now ex is still famous and living in Las Vegas, so I didn't quite work it out as well as she and Neil have. However, I did see that she had the same problem I had- when do you ask for help and when do you willingly accept it- two entirely different issues. She had a mentor/friend in Anthony- I had a mentor friend in Ann. She lived in New England when trying to find her tribe, I found my tribe after leaving New England on the shores of the calarts swimming pool. She did Dresden Dolls, I did Orgasm Pi. The bands were fearless, similar, and in many ways Dada-ist Cabaret with a dash of social commentary and punk fusion. She writes blogs, as do I. I create animations and voice projects, she inspires the same. Unlike Amanda, I hadn't luckily found the right people when I need them- I had to actively SEARCH for these people. But we both chatted on Patreon about this issue. Her team is brilliant. Her attitude is brilliant. (and girl, I know hormone hell, o hello I do.) (And Jamy Ian Swiss is also a friend, who I learned AFTER reading the book- assisted her in editing and working out kinks of the wordsmithing.)The great thing about Amanda is that she actively lives a Why Not Life. I intentionally removed the Y from my name- and became a Y-not life. In her book, you feel connected and understand that she is connecting with people on a level that allows her the freedom to open her hand and share- whether it be a flower, or a song. She shares. She shares showing us that sharing is a reciprocity game. It's not unconditional, such as the love of her family- it's very conditional, and very much a matter of mutual respect. Artist and Patron. Patron and Artist- equals and forever in a back and forth of sharing. In her sharing she builds connections, relationships, partnerships. Her audience is more than an audience- it's a mutual respect society. And in a society, the norms are determined together. This is why the book, The Art of Asking, is so much more than just a memoir of a TED talk. It's a realistic look at what art means to audiences as well as how it behaves in the minds of artists.

I've gotten very interested in the Alaska gold rush since I found out that my great-grandfather piloted a ship up there taking prospectors and their gear to ports like Skagway. It was even more interesting to read about the women who went alone or with their spouses and the native women who lived there and their experiences since most books just talk about the men. These are interesting stories about women who impacted the gold rush, and I enjoyed the book.

Just glanced its contents. In other similar books. The women were true pioneers. Independent, sassy and real business women.

Very interesting recount of these pioneer women.

This book was perfect for some of our little friends finding it hard to adjusting to preschool transitioning. It actually bought tears to several little friends eyes, because it was that easy for them to relate and understand. It was an award winner for our center and parents. it truly helped with our transitioning process.

This is such a sweet book with great illustrations. I have been reading it to my son since he was 18 months old and about to start daycare. While I can't say that the book has helped with the separation anxiety when I drop him off at daycare, I do know that he loves to read this book because now at 23 months old he repeats "all day long" when it appears in the book.

I gave this book to my daughter whose two-year-old just started preschool, and she tells me it has helped so much with his adjustment. The refrain has become a kind of "mantra" of reassurance for him--not unlike carrying around a security blanket. His mother has personalized the text, reminding him that "I love you when you're at school, I love you when you miss me ( but I ALWAYS come back), I love you when you're playing with blocks, I love you when the teacher is reading you a story, I love you when you're having fun on the playground." She also reminds him at home that "I love you when you're taking a nap, I love you when you make a mess, I love you when I'm angry with you, I love you all day long!" He also enjoys filling in his own examples. A wonderful, warm story with a helpful message for toddlers!

Very simple and cute book. My little one now paraphrases the “tag line” to me frequently “I love you when you’re with me and I love you when you’re away.” Seemed to reallly resonate with her and the tantrums when we leave have subsided.

We've used the saying. "mommy/daddy loves you all day long", when leaving in reference to the book and our 23 month old gets it. Good story for young ones, to help figure out them figure out grown ups come back.

I read this book to my preschool class. It is comforting, nurturing, and very sweet. I enjoyed reading it as much as they enjoyed hearing it. The illustrations simple but powerful and really add to the story.

This is a super sweet book. My three year old seemed to appreciate it and she was able to follow the story. I bought it around the beginning of preschool so that my daughter could get used to the idea of me being away from her... but remembering that I am coming back and I love her whether we are together or not.

Fit good except for the throttle valve. Had to use the one off the old carb. Other than that works great.
