Great book! I learned so much about nutrition from this book. I had no idea that food had such healing properties. The recipes are good too. I haven't been as disciplined as I should about cutting out the junk food, so I haven't seen any real weight loss. But, small steps for me towards health.

this book was not what i was expecting. whether that is my fault or not, i was hoping this book would help me calculate the IIFYM that i am trying to figure out. this book is more about clean eating.

Easy to read basics of Macrobiotics. I took up Macro 25 years ago when my teenage son was suffering from many ailments we learned was CFS. At the time popular thought was that it was a drummed up ailment for goldbrickers. The results of following this plan were so positive that we stuck with it for about 12 - 15 years then slowly drifted away as he went of to college, law school and the "convenience" of the standard eating habits. Macro does limit your social life and I too strayed. Now that I'm 70 the ailments of arthritis, fatigue, high blood pressure etc. are annoying me more than not being able to eat anywhere and anything. I wanted to get back into a routine maybe a little less restrictive than that which I had 25 years ago. I came across this book on Amazon and recalled taking my son to see Verne Varona way back then. (he was in Los Angeles at that time) He was able to counsel my son and me as well on the Macro journey. He made a big difference in our lives at that time so I figured I'd give it another shot. It's a comprehensive and easy to read explanation of the lifestyle with plenty of simple recipes and remedies. Great for beginners or returnees or those that are just interested in one of the many ways to health and restoration. My energy levels are up, sleep is improved, arthritic pain reduced and I'm still checking with the MD to see if I can reduce some of the BP meds.

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES!! Seriously, I love this book. Super easy, wonderful information and well written. If your are interested in a macrobiotic meal plan, health, plan and healing plan in all areas of ones self here it is. I can not say enough about this book. It seriously has led me to a new path in my holistic health plan.

I needed charming and charming is what I got with The Chilbury Ladies' Choir. It turned out to be a page turner and exactly what I was looking for. Ah, the characters come to life on the pages and the story takes off from page one with intricacies added like enhancements on a fine painting.I heartily recommend this book. It's excellent.

A great read! I felt like I was there. Several interesting female characters who grow and change when the men go off to war. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys historical fiction. I hated to leave Chilbury!

I really liked this book. It is one of those quirky books that rarely is published and when it does delights so many of us. For ecample A MAN CALLED OVE and MAJOR PETTIGREW'S LAST STAND. The Chilbury's Ladies Choir is a treasure! The story takes place in Britain in 1940. Most of the men in town have left or are leaving to fight the Germans in WWII. The cast of characters includes a young teenage girl, a pompous choir member, a widow who has yet to discover her own voice, a enthusiastic young school teacher and a new choir leader who inspires them all. In addition there are various men, both young and old, who provide the ladies (and the reader) a lot of gossip and entertainment. This book satisfied my love of history and my love for just simply charming reads. I hope this author writes another book soon.

This author definitely has talent. The story was set in a small village in England during WW 2. It has a random set of characters that play roles in the story. I suppose some people would classify this as a romance. I don't like romance books. This one does have some romantic interests in it but isn't the sort of story with the sweaty greasy bodice ripper sort of crap. It reminded me so much of the Downton Abbey sort of story. You have rich people , poor people , good guys and bad. In a way parts of it were predictable but it was still an extremely high quality and well written story.I'm keeping fingers crossed that there is a follow up book. The way the story ended, it seemed to me that it'd be pretty easy to start where this one ended. It leaves you wondering what happened to some of the characters so I'm hoping we will get to find out in the next book.For those who are like me and don't like romance but did like Downton, you may want to give this a shot.*** I listened to the audio version of this , which was outstanding. It was multi-voiced and everyone did a wonderful job.

I read this book as a recommendation in People Magazine. I'm so happy I read this book. The book is written from letters and journals. The characters are memorable. You laugh out loud and also experience sadness. This book has many facets. It is about WW11 in a small town in England. Coping with the effects of war is the theme but with so much more.

This delightful novel captures the imagination immediately, pulling the reader into the story as surely as if they were one of the well-drawn characters. It's a rare, impossible-to-put down slice of life that captures the fears and occasional horrors of the home front during WWII. At the same time, it illustrates how hope and courage grew in the hearts of the women young and old, who did far more, physically and psychologically, than merely keeping the home fires burning. A real gem of a book that easily deserves a sequel, or two or three.

This story is told in letters and journal entries. I didn't like it as much as The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society it was still a well told story of everyday people in Britain n the early part of the war. The women of the Chilbury Choir each finds their new voice in a world they no longer recognize. It starts a bit slowly but I recommend it

An unusual and rewarding presentation of the lives of a small-town group of women as they deal with the trials of dealing with war on the home front. Though presented through letters and diary notations, this skillfully crafted book presents fully developed characters who triumph from inconveniences as challenging as forcing their town to accept a choir that has no men to surviving danger, food shortages, and supporting one another during a particularly challenging chapter of their lives. I will always remember these women and this book. Though it is presented in a British town, this could be small-town women all over Europe as they dealt with surviving.

This book is one of the best (and unfortunately, one of the few) books on the subject of how the church treats single women and fatherless children. While today's buzzwords for these people are "disenfranchised" or "marginalized," the more accurate word is "pain." All too often members of the church stand in judgment, leaving material and emotional support for precious and hurting children of God to secular agencies. I know because I've been one of those women and my son was one of those children. When my husband abruptly left our family, there was no child support, no contact for my son with his father. I was working part-time initially, but soon after began working full-time and my 5-year-old son basically went from two parents to one part-time parent. It was hard to witness and deal with the effects of his pain. It was hard enough to deal with my own, especially when since I was suddenly single, I was expelled from the couples Bible study my husband and I had attended and told that I "would be more comfortable" in one for singles. So rejection was immediately added to abandonment.I know that Mr. Shaw cautions against telling a newly husbandless woman that God will be her husband (and I agree that mouthing Isaiah 54:5 as a platitude is insensitive), God truly did become my husband and my son's father. We saw miracle after miracle of provision, protection and grace. We gradually found acceptance in a loving church and another miracle, this time financial, allowed me to send my son to a Christian school where godly men mentored him. Still today, ten years after his high school graduation, a couple of male teachers from school maintain contact with him. Bless them!Thank you Nathan Shaw for writing this book. I am recommending it to several pastors and others in ministry.

I have never read a book so fast. Listen to me!!!! Every household in America should have a copy of this book in it. The cover, (forgive me Nathan Shaw), looks like another white picket fence christian title and style. Nope, nope, nope. This book is packed with serious deep level issues of family dysfunction, understanding the key point of why most marriages fail and the majority of "adults" are children who are still looking to complete the area's of abandonment and hurt, by transferring that need to fill the hole through their spouses, friends and employers. This book shows how to restore dignity and honor, and one principle of order that God has provided for us to succeed, is hidden like deep and long forgotten treasure, in caring for the needs of the widow in their distress. And let me just say........you don't know what the sentence means, until you read the book. It's not as it appears. God has given Nathan the revelation, as he has to others, for this time in history. This book is as much about the widow, the fatherless and the divorced women as it is about anyone who grew up with a father who was not whole as a person, and still living with the pain of his own childhood. Just having the understanding, will unlock you to receive healing and wholeness and have honor and dignity restored. We live in a majority society where insecurity and inferiority has stopped the process of purpose and destiny, for the very reasons you will find in this book. The amazing thing for me is, this is confirmation to what God is and has already revealed to me. But Nathan is an excellent communicator in articulating his message. There is no fluff. It's all intense. Read it, and pass it on. Write the reviews, tell your friends. Unlock your blessing.

I fall into more than one of the categories Nathan describes in this book and as I read this book through, it opened my eyes to the true reality of my situation. Along with that truth incredibly at the same time this book has opened my eyes to the truth that with the tender care and love that only the Father could, He has been working His purposes for my life out and He is in the process of giving significance and purpose to the painful seasons I am walking through.I will be re reading this book.
