Four high school best friends are cruising the mall one day when they find an unusual kiosk. Bailey buys a packet of temporary tattoos which she shares with her friends. The tattoos lead the way to an action-packed weekend filled with characters from mythology and a quest to save the world.Bailey is the average, klutzy one but she has a blood tie to the Fates and her gift is fire. She also has visions and hears voices which provide hints about what their mission is. Her friend Annabelle's tattoo lets her read minds and influence others. Fashion maven Delia is given the gift of transformation with her tattoo and athletic, tomboy Zo gets the gift of prophetic visions with hers. The girls have one weekend to find a way to stop one of the Fates from destroying the seal that keeps the world in balance. I liked the way the girls' different personalities mesh in this story. Delia's use of her power provides comic relief for the heavier elements of the story. The story is told from Bailey's point of view. She has a great voice and is interested in all the things important to high school girls.

My Thoughts: This book was a fun quick read. We start off by getting to know all the girls. I will admit I had a hard time following at first. Mainly because the girls seemed so much alike I had trouble keeping them straight. We don't get too much detail surrounding each girl so I had to remember who was who. Once the story unfolded though, it came together. The girls became individuals. They go and end up buying tattoos that are supposed to be "temporary" right before a big dance they are looking forward too. There is a guy involved of course but he wasn't in the story as much as I would have liked. Each girl gets a special gift from the tattoos. Without giving much more away, we learn the reason behind it and why they are so "special." I can't expand too much more without giving away the whole plot of the book. This story reminded me a lot of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The dialogue. I think it would appeal more to teenage girls than older women. I like the whole premise of it, if only I could be special by putting on a temporary tattoo!!! Its a fun quick read. This is a new to me author, but I just found out she has another book coming out next year called, Raised By Wolves. Sounds interesting!Overall: Quick read, the story unfolds fast and try to keep the girls straight from the beginning! And which power they possess.Cover: The cover is eye catching but I think the cover of Fate is more appealing. Not a whole lot going on in this one, just a girl's back and where her tattoo is. (Reviewed by Princess Bookie)

...Are quite rare. What our author does here is weave a woman's view into that complicated adolescent mind and bring out the joy of being powerful, beautiful in the most common way possible--being oneself, and generally makes being a human being somehow as romantic as Huck Finn floating down the river or a space adventure out of this world.I didn't think I'd enjoy this book as much as I did...which means you can infer by the 5 stars the truth...

I wasn't sure about this book at first. Some young adult books come with very little cross over appeal. It was a little cliché in the beginning. But, then the fun started. I've always enjoyed mysteries and thrillers, and this story had that and more. The characters were upbeat. I did think that the climax happened rather abruptly. I wanted a little bit more conflict there. It ended well though and had an interesting spin.

This book was good, but kind of a let-down. I think the description built the book up a little too much and focused on a part of the book that wasn't really there. Besides that, it was good. I think anyone who likes teen adventure should read this book. Enjoy!

tattoo was a great book and i loved reading this book it keep you on your toes and it was mythical and funny and i couldnt put it down. jennifer lynn barnes did a great job writingthis book. hope you like it.

Tattoo is about a girl named Bailey and her three friends. One day while at the mall, a lady stops them at a kiosk and gives each of them a different accessory. When it's Bailey's turn, the lady tells her that she can actually pick which accessory she wants. Bailey ends up accidentally knocking over a drawer, and decides on the choice of temporary tattoos. While the girls go dress shopping, they each decide to put their tattoos on. Each girl decides on a different place. Even though they don't know how to put the tattoo on since they don't have water, it just sticks to them without it. Bailey ends up blacking out and seeing weird things when each of the girls put their tattoo on. Nobody else experiences the same thing, which kind of freaks her out. Immediately after the tattoos are placed upon their skin, each develops special powers. Zo can see the future, Annabelle can read minds, Delia can transmogrify any object, and Bailey can set fire to anything.Bailey was such a great main character. It was interesting following the story through her footsteps. I really liked being able to see into her head whenever she was having dreams, because her dreams tended to be real. It's also pretty visible that something is quite different about her other than the other girls.Zo was really cool. I liked how she was a tomboy and was jealous of other's powers. She didn't want to be able to see the future. I'm not sure if I would want to either; whenever she was seeing the future she seemed to be filled with pain.Delia was the fashion star of the group. She was always worried about fashion labels and what others were wearing. You can probably imagine her excitement when she found that she could transmogrify a piece of garbage into a new Gucci.Annabelle was my favorite character. She was usually very quiet, though her power really suited her. She could talk to others through her brain, read others minds, and she could also tell people to do something and they'd actually do it. It kind of reminded me of The Vampire Diaries, in a way.Tattoo was such an interesting book. It was better than I thought it would be. I think that the entire story line and the mystical powers of the tattoos really intrigued me. I also didn't expect that there would be any other creatures involved, though faeries were just thrown in there and they ended up making up a big part of the story line. The only thing that kind of bothered me was the final fight. The buildup to it got me really excited and I just couldn't wait for it. I was expecting some huge showdown that would last a while, though it ended up lasting only like three pages. I ended up having to flip back to make sure that it actually already happened. I'd definitely suggest giving this novel a try!

#19,655 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I'm a film student, and taking my first screenwriting class. This wasn't a required text, but one of the recommended ones. I've reads parts of several different ones, and this is the one I feel is the most useful. He's not some academic with his head in the clouds. Very good advise that makes sense. Some very specific structures to use, and lots of useful anecdotes about "the biz". One of the things that I liked best was that everytime he talks about some theory about screenwriting, he immediately backs it up with scenes from recognizable movies.

I've read literally hundreds of writing guidebooks and this is the most practical I've ever seen. I've seen books that literally say, "Here's how to write a plot. Put your character in a tree, throw rocks at the character, have the character get back down." That's a nice analogy but how you're supposed to apply it to a romance or a science fiction story or a courtroom drama? Snyder gives real advice that writers can apply right away. This book is best known for its discussion of what is known as "beats." Snyder created a basic formula of elements that will fit almost every story out there to tell. He even breaks the beats down to what page number they should appear in the screenplay which has lent itself to a spreadsheet called the "beat sheet" that has become essential in modern Hollywood. The beats have also been applied to TV shows, novels and other forms of fiction. There's been a lot of the criticism of the beats as being formulaic, but it's really just a system that fits story arcs going back to ancient mythology. Almost any story is going to have a midpoint where there are highs or lows and "bad guys closing in."Beyond the beat sheet, there are also tips like writing young characters to reach the widest audience, using distraction to gloss over exposition, and not making the story too complicated. I thought Snyder's advice was very practical and could be applied right away, but is something I've never seen in print, so it's welcome.Yes, this book isn't for people who want to write metaphorical or metaphysical drama that explores the human condition. If you want to write a movie or novel that will sell to a small and limited audience, this isn't the book for you. If you want a book that will tell you how to write blockbuster stories for the biggest audience, I can't think of a better one.

Having just finished reading this book I've decided to make another pass, focusing mostly on my highlights and notes, with every confidence this book will remain on my reference shelf (or in my Kindle where it actually resides) for the rest of my professional life. Well written, interesting, and with many excellent points, it's a good, solid, interesting read. One can tell many reviewers, readers, wanna be screenwriters, and others are certain this book is off the mark and too formula to have value. These same folks need to spend more time actually watching and analyzing many of the films Hollywood puts out even today (2018). This book is right on the money. Sure, there are exceptions to the rules, but as Snyder - and any expert, trainer, pro, or individual with a track record and street cred will tell you, you must know the rules before you dare break them. Save the Cat is a prime example of this concept.I've heard of the book many times over the years, but until I decided to commit full time to my screenwriting I'd not taken the time to grab it and read. I'm sorry I wasted the time. Not only as an academic, non-fiction, and fiction writer, but as a media psychologist this book is a great read with some seriously solid insights. On the other hand, as a newer screenwriter it's a great help, and it lays a solid foundation for much of what Hollywood offers, has become, and will remain. Whether or not you agree with anything he writes, as any professional knows, you always read the books and experts who know the pathway.I highly recommend this book for anyone who is considering being a screenwriter - or writer - or loves film.

Everyone kept suggesting I check out this book and praising it. I hadn't really read any film books outside of school. (I graduated in 2014 with a BA in Television Production) And this book just crapped on most of my schooling. It changed so many approaches to writing for me and it's crazy how effect it is in such simple ways. And it'll save you loads of time. And it's written in a very informal way. More like a buddy who doesn't pull punches nor tries to convince you of his intelligence with ridiculously fluffed vernacular. It's simple. It's casual. It's straight to the point. And it's gonna save you loads of time, money, and growth errors. Buy this book.

Review

Praise for Science and Spiritual Practices 1 of 100 Books We Love (Spirituality & Health) “A simultaneously grounded and inspiring approach to appreciating the benefits of both science and religion.” ―Kirkus Reviews (starred review) “With accessible suggestions, clear arguments, and an encouraging tone, Sheldrake makes a good case for reincorporating bygone spiritual habits.” ―Publishers Weekly “Rupert Sheldrake once again acts as a bridge builder between science and spirituality . . . Psychological and scientific studies are cited to underpin his findings, and an engaging account of his own life path helps to create a very accessible and authentic tone for the reader . . . It’s a testimony to his courage and integrity that he continues to harness the horses of both science and spirituality to pull the chariot, and he drives his vehicle well.” ―Quest: Journal of the Theosophical Society in America "For readers wishing to follow his path, Sheldrake offers advice on seven ways in which we can begin to appreciate the transcendent world of the Spirit . . . We learn how to connect with the more-than-human world of nature; to respect plants and explore the benefits of small orchards; to value rituals and experience pilgrimages; to enjoy the power of music through chanting. All these practices can deepen the meaning of our lives and open our minds to a universe flooded with consciousness." ―Church Times "I have personally adopted many of the practices Rupert describes in his book and experienced more love, joy, empathy, gratitude, and equanimity as a result. We are all indebted to Rupert, who has tirelessly brought us deep insights from both science and spirituality." ―Deepak Chopra "This is a refreshing and reflective work, a great contribution by a scholar whose intellectual life has been dedicated to showing connections among practice and polity, science and Spirit. His Science and Spiritual Practices reminds us clearly that everything is connected." ―Jeffrey Patnaude, author, teacher, priest "I love this book! For its clarity, its first-person stories and applications, its science and experientially based facts, its timeliness, its humor, its blunt questions and challenges put to the guardians of die-hard scientific materialism, its breadth of topics and depth of insights historical, philosophical, religious, and spiritual. Few living scientists have the courage and the chops to ask the questions Rupert does, research them, and deliver answers in language all can understand. Be prepared as you read this book for an exciting and free-ranging ride, a sort of scientific pilgrimage journeying into spiritual practices and how they have benefited and can benefit humanity." ―Matthew Fox, author of Original Blessing and A Way to God and founder of the Fox Institute for Creation Spirituality "Urgent, vital, gently devastating, and an exhilarating read. Buy it, read it, and give it to all your friends and all acolytes of scientism. Sheldrake will help us stay alive and be more alive. We all need his help." ―Charles Foster, Fellow of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, and author of Being a Beast “Erwin Schrödinger, the Nobel Prize–winning physicist, lamented, 'The scientific picture of the real world around me is very deficient. It gives a lot of factual information, puts all our experience in a magnificently consistent order, but it is ghastly silent about all and sundry that is really near to our heart, that really matters to us.' Today this 'ghastly silence' is experienced by millions, as modern life has become increasingly desiccated and disenchanted, drained of meaning and purpose through a materialistic view of life and consciousness. If you hunger for an increase in the juice and tang of your life, biologist Rupert Sheldrake’s Science and Spiritual Practices is a magnificent starting point. It is CPR for modernity’s starved and sagging spirit―and is therefore crucial for our survival.” ―Larry Dossey, MD, author of One Mind: How Our Individual Mind Is Part of a Greater Consciousness and Why It Matters "Rupert Sheldrake is not only a consummate scientist, but is a person alive to the spirit. I am personally grateful for the writing and publication of Science and Spiritual Practices, and not only endorse it wholeheartedly, but look forward to the support and depth it will bring to my own life.” ―Marc Andrus, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California Praise for The Science Delusion (Published in the US as Science Set Free) "Thirty years after his first heretical books, Sheldrake's new one, Science Set Free, is a landmark achievement. No science writing has inspired me more." ―Deepak Chopra, San Francisco Chronicle "Isn't it nice to have some mystery back? Isn't it nice to have doubts?" ––Esquire "Rupert Sheldrake shows very convincingly the way that time and again scientists refuse to look at anything outside a very limited set of possibilities. Sheldrake shows powerfully how some professional skeptics simply have no interest in looking into claims for anything outside of our current scientific understanding. A valuable and powerful message." ––Popular Science "The author, a biologist, takes issue with the idea that science already understands the nature of reality - and in doing so, frees up the spirit of enquiry." ––The Times "Rupert Sheldrake does science, humanity and the world at large a considerable favour." ––Colin Tudge, The Independent "Sheldrake powerfully reminds us that science must be pursued with an open mind." ––Robert Jackson, former UK Minister for Science "There is something rather odd about the current state of science. For Rupert Sheldrake, [it is] facing a 'credibility crunch' on many fronts. He presents this challenging argument by identifying 'ten core beliefs that most scientists take for granted.' He then interrogates each in turn by reformulating it, in the spirit of radical scepticism, as a question. This Socratic method of inquiry proves surprisingly illuminating. A serious mind-expanding book." ––James le Fanu, The Spectator "Certainly we need to accept the limitations of much current dogma and keep our minds open as we reasonably can. Sheldrake may help us do so through this well-written, challenging and always interesting book." ––Crispin Tickell, Financial Times "We must somehow find different, more realistic ways of understanding human beings - and indeed other animals - as the active wholes that they are, rather than pretending to see them as meaningless consignments of chemicals. Rupert Sheldrake, who has long called for this development, spells out this need forcibly in his new book. He shows how materialism has gradually hardened into a kind of anti-Christian principle, claiming authority to dictate theories and to veto inquiries on topics that don't suit it, such as unorthodox medicine, let along religion. He shows just how unworkable the assumptions behind today's fashionable habits have become. The 'science delusion' of his title is the current popular confidence in certain fixed assumptions - the exaltation of today's science, not as the busy, constantly changing workshop that it actually is but as a final, infallible oracle preaching a crude kind of materialism... His insistence on the need to attend to possible wider ways of thinking is surely right." ––Mary Midgley, The Guardian "A fascinating, humane and refreshing book that any layman can enjoy, in which he takes ten supposed scientific 'laws' and turns them, instead, into questions... Dr. Sheldrake wants to bring energy and excitement back into science... he has already done more than any other scientist alive to broaden the appeal of the discipline, and readers should get their teeth into the important and astounding book." ––Country Life "For those of us who are suspicious of the claims of materialism it's astonishing, and also heartening, to hear a scientist agree that it's a hidebound ideology, dismiss the belief in determinism as a 'delusion' and call on the 'high priests' of science to abandon their 'fantasy of omniscience'." ―Robert McLuhan, author of Randi's Prize Praise for The Sense of Being Stared At "[Sheldrake's] genius lies in his taking well-attested anecdotal phenomena like telepathy, the sense of being stared at and anticipating alarm calls, then puts them to the scientific test. In doing so his work not only extends - indeed stretches - the mind, it extends science in a new and creative direction." ––David Lorimer, Scientific and Medical Network Review "Sheldrake has given us a solid body of evidence that our minds extend beyond our brains and 'our intentions stretch out into the world around us, and also extend into the future.' We eagerly await the next installment in this scientist's fascinating studies." ―Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat, Spirituality & Practice "You will certainly never take the miracle of the senses for granted again." ––Dr. James Le Fanu, The Tablet "Sheldrake uses many case studies, along with scientific theory, to support his research, and the result is, quite literally, mind-expanding." ––The Good Book Guide"Sheldrake offers another round of profound case studies as a bridge to documenting such rarely considered but common human phenomena as 'telephone telepathy,' lifesaving premonitions, and the phenomenon that gives this utterly compelling and gratifying book its title: the power of the gaze . . ." ―Booklist "Sheldrake offers another round of profound case studies as a bridge to documenting such rarely considered but common human phenomena as 'telephone telepathy,' lifesaving premonitions, and the phenomenon that gives this utterly compelling and gratifying book its title: the power of the gaze . . ." ―Library Journal "The Sense of Being Stared At And Other Unexplained Powers of Human Minds belongs in new age, science and spirituality collections alike, and provides an updated edition sharing the author's 25+ years of research into telepathy, the power of staring, remote viewing and precognition...From the social roots of telepathy to how our minds extend beyond our bodies, this is a fascinating survey highly recommended for a wide range of collections." ―California Book Watch"Dr. Rupert Sheldrake continues to chart a new course in our understanding ...The application of this understanding has the potential to heal our world." ––Deepak Chopra, M.D., founder of the Chopra Center for Well-Being and coauthor of Super Brain "Rupert Sheldrake's The Sense of Being Stared At will change forever your concept of the nature of consciousness, not just in humans but in other creatures as well. It expands the reach of perception beyond the physical senses and beyond the constraints of space and time. What emerges is a new vision of human potential based not in fantasy but in cutting-edge science. This will prove to be one of the most important books of the 21st century." ―Larry Dossey, M.D., winner of the 2013 Visionary Award and author of One Mind "Important, thought-provoking, and exciting. Sheldrake's combination of good science with an open mind and his willingness to dig deeply where others fear to tread makes for a fascinating, un-put-downable read." ―Graham Hancock, author of Fingerprints of the Gods and Supernatural Praise for Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home"An open-minded inquiry into animals' precognitive capabilities from Sheldrake (Seven Experiments That Could Change the World, 1995), attentive to the evidence and thoroughly investigative, conducted in the belief that science can be fun and rigorous, inquisitive as well as skeptical.Sheldrake is a pleasure not just because he roams way beyond the mechanistic theory of nature, but because he appreciates worthy new questions as well as answers, one such being the time-honored Why?" ―Kirkus Reviews "The book is enriched with stories from animal owners about their animals' abilities, such as the cow who broke out of her pen and tracked down her newly sold calf miles away or German pigeons that always flew away half an hour before the Allied bombs fell. Whether or not the reader believes in the psychic abilities of animals, all will be fascinated by the weight of the evidence and by Sheldrake's clear commentary. Extensive notes and a thorough bibliography round out what will be an extremely popular book." ―Booklist "Sheldrake's conclusions may cause you to be surprised, dismayed, or disbelieving, but you will never be bored. For millions of pet owners, Sheldrake's book will affirm what they already know that animals have abilities that have been lost by modern humans. This book is highly recommended and will be in demand by readers of Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson and Elizabeth Marshall Thomas." ―Library Journal "While there have been many books on pets' psychic powers and on animals' seemingly paranormal abilities, English biologist Sheldrake's distinctive contribution is to set forth a theory that begins to make sense of this baffling realm. His study is filled with marvelous stories of missing pets finding their way home over unfamiliar terrain; of cats and dogs responding emotionally, sometimes at a great distance, to the suffering or death of their owners; of animals' precognitive warnings of earthquakes, impending epileptic seizures, bombing attacks and other imminent dangers; of cats, dogs and parrots responding to the ring of the telephone whenever a particular person calls. Skeptics may scoff, yet the cumulative weight of evidence Sheldrake assembles is impressive, and an appendix outlines simple research projects animal lovers can conduct to test whether their pets have psychic powers. This pioneering study throws a floodlight on an area largely ignored by institutional science." ―Publishers Weekly "Delightful . . . this book will turn our understanding of animals inside out" ––Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, author of When Elephants Weep "Wonderful . . . splendid and thought-provoking" ––Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, author of The Hidden Life of Dog Praise for Seven Experiments that Could Change the World"A well-reasoned, accessible and provocative book. Illustrations." ––Publishers Weekly "In any generation, there are only a handful of people whose ideas contain the possibility of significantly altering the course of human history. Dr. Rupert Sheldrake is such a person. His ideas offer a real chance for humanity to regain its spiritual bearings. We have been blessed with a rare genius." ––Larry Dossey, M.D., author of Space, Time and Medicine Praise for The Rebirth of Nature "A beautifully written, deeply felt, and sinuously argued challenge to many habits of thought." ––Booklist "The Rebirth of Nature is a breakthrough book, beautifully written and spiritually oriented. It shows our intimate relationship with the universe―that we are a part of a breathing, living, thinking cosmos and that intelligence is a pervasive reality inseparably one with nature. This book will take everyone who reads it to new heights of understanding."––Deepak Chopra, M.D. Praise for The Presence of the Past "Engaging, provocative ... a tour de force" ––New Scientist "One of the most profound and far-reaching books of modern scientific philosophy ... eminently accessible to the general reader." ––Fortean Times Praises of A New Science of Life "An inspiring read, with ever more to offer an awakening humanity." ––Positive News

If you care about the confluence of science and spirit, if you have any curiosity at all about the mysteries of nature in its myriad forms, if you have even the vaguest inkling about Quantum Physics and is thrilling discoveries regarding the true nature of reality as we know it, then this clearly-stated, accessible, beautifully reasoned offering was written just for you. The London Sunday Times predicts that Rupert Sheldrake will, one day, "be seen as a prophet." Read this book -- read all his marvelous books! -- and you'll surely agree. Sheldrake's work is a gift to us all.

Science and Spiritual practice is a very critical look at the artificial division between science and spiritual practice as a form of cosmology and insight rather than dogmatic ritual or belief. In this book biologist, Rupert Sheldrake shares insights from his own work with plants and "fields".Those familiar with his work know that Sheldrake's science background and integration are unquestionable especially when viewed in the relevant context of a relevant to the whole, and that whole being the entire universe and no less. for there are no boundaries between the individual and thecosmos and Creation /Creator other than consciousness or lack thereofThis book is highly suggested for those who want to more fully experience the deeper level of true science which is based on curiosity and creativity, rather than scientific dogma.Throughout history "animism' and the soul of everything from atoms to living organism has been revered and understood as a part of the "science of living" in relation to Nature and thus the creative potential of the UniverseSpirituality is a method of integrating our seeming separation from Creation and Creator and healing the loss of wholeness that accompanies reductionist evolutionary scienceAs Darwin repeatedly stated. "It is love and mutual cooperation that defines the truly "fit"...and not a random selection.A conscious Universe and a conscious creator and a whole human being are thus closely relatedA wonderful cosmology to balance out our "pseudo-scientific "world that forgot that "mystery" in the essential Nature of all life and principles and living.

I like Sheldrake's book. I like his holistic approach to science and spirituality. It resonates with my personal experience. We live in a world where everything is connected to everything. Everything includes many things that we cannot see and/or perceive. But these things exist despite of our opinion about them. This book is easy to read and understand.

As someone who works and plays in the sciences and has struggled for years seeking the best personal spiritual path, I connected with this book. No matter your path, you'll find some connection here. Sheldrake's message is clear in the belief that belief is part of the human experience and has been since the start.

Science backedSpirit centered

--- but Isaac is his son, not grandson.(sorry, but I don't know where to tell this point)

It was very disappointing. I was expecting some interrelationship of the new scientific work on human powers or siddhis with spirituality. Instead, I think a bishop could have written this advocating Christian rituals.

It's just OK, with some insightful ideas about this topic.
