Whether or not snarky insults can ever be deemed as acceptable all depends on your personal point of view, but author Lawrence Dorfman's The Snark Handbook: Insult Edition does make a compelling case in their favor in this book, another in his Snark Series, acclaimed by curmudgeons and literary wits alike. For those who may be unfamiliar with the term, snark is a noun, meaning biting wit, or snide remarks. Snarkiness would be the quality of being snarky. Some call it sarcasm, but that sounds too mild. In any case, Lawrence Dorfman is the master of snark. This Kindle edition propels the reader immediately into what appears to be a meaningless jumble of short jabs and unattributed snarky insults, such as these:â—† A sharp tongue is no indication of a keen mind. â—† Everyone is gifted. Some open the package sooner. â—† It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others. â—† You fill a much-needed gap. â—† You have the Midas touch. Everything you touch turns to muffler. â—† If he were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week. â—†Bullets separate them, just as seen above, and they go on for pages. This may be unnerving and quite random to some readers, but just persevere and you'll soon get to the meat of this book.â—† He has a mechanical mind. He just forgot to wind it up this morning. â—† He smells the coffee, but can't find the pot. â—† He would be out of his depth in a parking-lot puddle. â—† He'd steal the straw from his mother's kennel. â—† He's got that faraway look. The farther away he gets, the better he looks. â—† In the land of the witless, the half-wit is king. â—† It is mind over matter. I don't mind, because you don't matter. â—† It's hard to get the big picture when you have such a small screen. â—†Finally, after more pages of this, we get to the introduction, ". . . and just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water." From here author Dorfman begins to place the topics in a more structured format. Maybe a clustered structure would be a better way to put it, as some of the topics reappear in places. Within these topic headings you'll find quite an array, such as: The Insult Hall of Shame, Shakespearean Insults, How to Do It, Literature, Politics and Current Events, Cop Snark, Sports, Snarky Workplace Commentary, Insults and More Insults, Snarkin' the News, Things Not to Say to Your Boss, Snarky Criticism, and much more. There are quizzes, such as Match the Criticism to the Book, Match the Insult to the Book, and Match the Insult to the Show. There are black and white illustrations throughout, and they show up quite well in this Kindle edition. You'll encounter insults by (and sometimes directed at) specific people. You'll encounter the best of verbal jabs by or aimed at people such as Mark Twain, Tom Wolfe, Don Rickles, Hunter S. Thompson, Jonathan Swift, Norman Mailer, Kurt Vonnegut, Dorothy Parker, Frank Sinatra, Boy George, Joan Rivers, Tom Waits, Woody Allen, Madonna, Bette Midler, The Rolling Stones, Carly Simon, Robert Redford, Mae West, David Letterman, Charlie Sheen, Winston Churchill, Groucho Marx, John Travolta, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, W. C. Fields, Condoleezza Rice, Stephen Colbert, and this is to just name a few. In other words, there's something or someone here for almost everyone. Some of these are old, such as Things in Golf That Sound Dirty. A few are repeats from the original Snark Handbook, but for those who may have missed them, it's like finding the best of the best. For those who cannot get enough of this, Lawrence Dorfman has released his newest in his ongoing Snark Series. The author's The Snark Handbook: Politics and Government Edition is quite timely considering that 2012 is the year of our presidential elections, and it's loaded with similar snark as we find here, but with a decided political focus. If I had any issues with this e-book, it would have to do with the formatting, especially as found in the beginning, with all of the small jabs put together and separated by bullets. It can be distracting, possibly even irritating for some, and it's tempting to throw a snarky remark or two at the author or his publisher for this visual faux pas. Mine will come in the form of deducting a point from a perfect recommendation here. Enough said.Lawrence Dorfman has offered us well-calculated directions on when and how to throw your colleagues and co-workers the prods of timely snark from this collection from the most accomplished literary masters of the craft of the well-stated insult. This book is a treasure trove for those who appreciate the art of snark. Recommended to any and all who enjoy this witty genre.9/5/2012

Great book, use it to defend myself against stupid people. Thanks.

It is a sarcastic approach. It fits my sense of humor although it might not be universally approved or appropriate. It belongs to an era of dialectics and rhetorics, and not to the present reality TV, tweeter and Facebook social BS.Long live the Snarks. Bring us back the dark ages of intellect and profound thinking.

This book goes way back to the 60's and loses it's pique with jokes that might have been funny at the time if you were in on the current events. By today, it's rather hohum.

Plenty of laughs here, although some of the comments hit a little close to home.

Like most are reviewing, this is not a professional read.It has many spelling errors and at some points you say "is that even a sentence?"I got this for my brother in law who is 14 and he loved it.If you are an adult... skip it. You are better off just surfing the web and kicking a good kick out of online articles.

The book was funny as all get-out.

This is not very good. Not very funny. There are only about a handful of useful ones. You have better luck finding better stuff off the internet for free.
