Knitwear designer Anniken Allis specializes in lace knitting, which she loves to add beads to. A lifelong knitter, she has been designing and teaching knitting and crochet since 2006 and is regularly published in knitting magazines on both sides of the Atlantic, including U.S. publications Debbie Bliss (cover design), Knitting Traditions (cover design), Knitscene, Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits, and Knit Simple. She also creates designs for yarn companies including Manos del Uruguay, Quince & Co., Juniper Moon Farm, and Classic Elite Yarns. Anniken sells her patterns through Ravelry and Patternfish and hand-dyed luxury yarns on her website. Anniken runs knitting and crochet workshops in England, and also offers online courses. Anniken was brought up in Norwayand learnt to knit from her mum.She takes everything she has learnt and brings it togetherto bring you an amazing array of beautiful designs.Lace knitting is her favorite knitting technique and this showsin her beautiful designs.Don't be mistaken and think that this book is just going to befilled with beautiful shawls.The book is packed full of many different projects includingwaistcoats to finger-less gloves.The book starts by teaching you all the techniques you willneed to make lace, beading knitting to be easier for you.Don't worry if you don't like beads of your projectsthey are designed to be made with or without beads.The projects are at different levels so any knittercan have a go of making some of the projects.The patterns are in written format and charts.At the start of the project you are given detailsof the sizing, what yarn, needles and other materials requiredas well as the gauge.You are also given the level of knitter required and notesto help you with the particular pattern.With all the techniques detailed in written instructionsand clear pictures you will find it easier to make each pattern.I love the delicate nature of lace knitting.Anniken has a real talent for designingbeaded lace patterns.If you have ever wanted to or really lovebeaded lace knittingthen this book would be fantastic for you.It's an amazing amount of projects in one book!I received this book to review.However all opinions expressed are my own.No monies were exchanged.
I received this book yesterday and can't put it down! It has many lovely patterns that I want to try. There is a wealth of instructional material at the beginning of the book. The charts are large and easy to read, with a key on each 2 pages so you don't have to flip through the book if you forget a symbol. There are some written instructions. I think there are some patterns which you could not do without ever using the charts, but even if you need to use a chart for part of a pattern, there are written instructions that help you to understand how to get started on a chart. I am becoming more comfortable with charts and appreciate the clear symbols and the size of these charts. I can't wait to try my first beaded project! This book has patterns for three different skill levels, so even a novice lace knitter has a place to start.
Wonderful book with fantastic explination and photo tutorial at the beginning for all the special stitches, cast on's, bind off's and such that are used in this book. The patterns are lovely and a it is clear the author took a lot of time selecting the perfect yarn and beads for the perfect project. I especially love that each pattern has written as well as charted instructions. If you are a fan of lace knitting or knitter interested in doing lace knitting I highly recommend this book. And the beads!!! WHO doesn't like adding a little bling to your project?!? Well done, Anniken!
Beautiful patterns, and well written instructions. Can't wait to get started on some projects. Also, am happy that the author gave such detailed instructions with pictures about the stitches or techniques she uses. Haven't made anything yet, but have already gleaned some valuable techniques that is used in every day knitting. The only negative I can say about it, is the smell of the ink. It's not pleasant to my nose. (I may need to air it out outside in the sunshine). But the information contained in the books is invaluable! And it's printed in the USA!
I'm not much of a knitter and can only do scarves. And lace, I've become a bit of an expert with that. Unfortunately the shawl I want to knit is not in the book. It's in a Vogue magazine with some uncorrected mistakes in the writing and no corrections yet from the author. My mistake, I should have researched it better. It has wonderful projects and, important for me, an excellent tutorial how to a include beads. If you want to use the yarn that's suggested by the author things can get very expensive. But that's ok considering how very special the end product will be. Recently I read that knitting is the best way to keep dementia/Altzheimer's at bay, as opposed to reading, crossword puzzles, etc. So get to it, ladies. And gentlemen.
