As an educator with five years of experience at the secondary level, I have rarely encountered a text that is such a valuable mix of theory and practice. I am grateful for this text, and will share it with my teacher friends.

This book is one of the best out there for cultivating deep levels of thinking and authentic learning.

Every year, the majority of the students in my non-AP U.S. History class confess that they find history classes boring and irrelevant: of what use is it to learn about events and developments in our past? Meanwhile, so many of our country's young citizens struggle to understand current and political events and developments.I don't blame them: although I was a dutiful student and did what was necessary to get a good grade in my U.S. History, I was convinced it was a huge waste of time. It was not until years later when I was reading about the events and developments at the time, that I started to recognize many of the same CONCEPTS we had learned about in history class. Times change, actors change, and issues change, but CONCEPTS are fairly timeless and universal. I finally realized that my U.S. History class HAD been useful after all--studying history helps one identify patterns, underlying tensions, and the causes and effects of these (in other words, CONCEPTS) that can give one a significant amount of insight and perspective on how these same concepts will play out today and in the future.But why did I have to be 10 years out of college to realize this on my own? Why wasn't objective explicitly explained, and why didn't my high school teachers explicitly teach me how to transfer concepts from history to the present and future, use history to understand the present and the future?Luckily, we now have a guidebook that breaks down how to do this: Tools for Teaching Conceptual Understanding, Secondary: Designing Lessons and Assessments for Deep Learning! I had been trying to use history to understand the present and future for several years, but it was on a "stumbling through the dark", ad hoc, trial and error manner. I can't tell you how many times I have recommended Julie's book, website, YouTube channel and even if possible attending a workshop! This book is your teacher-friendly answer to changing your instruction to suit the needs of our changing world and readying our students to work and grow in it!!

I have read so many teaching books that have great, research supported, common sense ideas but they just don't move out of the theory and into the classroom. FINALLY this book shares fully practical tools for what I can do with my students tomorrow to develop their conceptual understanding of the world. I want to plan lessons that help my students think deeply and transfer their thinking, Julie Stern's book helps me do this again and again - it's packed with ideas that are supported by educational research and designed for teachers to use in their classes straight away.

If this is your first and only recovery book, then purchase it. I still like my Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. This CODA book also has a very nice Chapter Five giving information that is valuable. Then there are many, many stories. It is a very large book - almost 600 pages. It is worth it.

I always knew I had issues with codependence but to what extent I wasn't aware until reading this book. Thank goodness I found this book - Very enlightening and empowering! EVERYONE needs to read this. Take from it what you need...and there IS something for everyone!

Love everything about this book. So many helpful recovery stories.

Great book- not so fast shipping

The one I got is the first version; later versions are what's used in the contemporary groups I've found. Nevertheless, I think this is a very good introduction to what CODA is about. Over half the book is peoples' stories.

Just got back from Maui and bought this book and could not have been happier with my purchase. We stayed for 3 days in Hana and we used this religiously and found the authors to be spot on with their recommendations. We ended up doing the road to Hana and then the other portion that the rental companies are not wild with you taking the rented vehicles on, but the locals told us was so beautiful and scenic. With 50+ miles to drive it is difficult (and unnecessary) to stop at every stop and see every waterfall that comes up. With this guide you are able to stop on the most breathtaking spots and those that are out of the way and worth it. We used this in conjuction with DK's top 10 Maui guide and these two small books had it all. Kudos to the authors on this, they helped make our anniversary trip special and maximized our time. Also, I would have to say that I was very much undecided on getting a Hana CD or this guide because though I am normally able to read in the car I thought it might be unable to do so due to all the turns. You take these turns extremely, and I do mean extremely slow, so if you can read in the car, it won't be a problem, to occasionally glance down to see what sight is coming up (unless of course you are the driver, in which case you need to just keep your eyes on the road). A very, very well done guide I would recommend for anyone traveling the road to Hana....a definite must see site for the deep raw beauty of East Maui...

Useful but not outstanding book. Followed this book on road to Hanna and it was misleading at times. Mileage data was not always correct. This road is very dangerous and that was not sufficiiently pointed out.You had better know a lot about Maui before you go trecking off with this book.

Most of the book is about the road to Hana and we aren't doing that. If you are then this book is great. I'll give it five stars because it's a great book. Just not exactly what I needed.

I love Maui. I have all the Maui guidebooks. I have property in Maui. So I had to get "Maui - Mile by Mile, 2nd edition, fully illustrated with over 150 photographs," with a nice glossy color cover.Helllllo... Once you get past the cover, all the pictures are black and white. To be more accurate, the pictures look like they came off a basement laser printer that's low on toner - complete with vertical stripes. Do you know what pictures of rainforests look like in black and white? Gray doormats. Sunsets look like the Hiroshima blast. Self-publishing is great, but shouldn't there be a disclaimer or something? Get Maui Revealed instead - Twice the information with color pictures.

This guidebook helped us find hikes our family enjoyed on a recent trip to Maui. On several occasions we made use of the Mile Marker locators for trailheads and parks that otherwise would have been difficult to find. Descriptions about the trails often enhanced our enjoyment or knowledge.A small size guidebook that was easy to pack in suitcase and have in the car.

This book was came in handy when driving to Hana. Excellent condition, fast shipping!!

Its a book about kali, i for once would like a book that has everything it needs to work out the details on a dvd included with it. A lot of downloading of other products other then Kali ~ to things that require a new set of creds at other sites.

This book is a value. I would say if one is serious about learning Kali Linux 2 and pen testing, go for it. There are some practical hands on tasks through out this book. I found it helpful to first read through them and then go back and preform them on my VM. I don't think I will doing any of this in the real world after learning about various cases of cyber crime and the punishments associated with them. It is nice (or scary) to understand how it all works and the possibilities of what can be done. A good understanding of Ruby, Perl, MySQL, Bash,...etc and various Linux OS commands would be helpful to know prior.

Great.

I bought this book for a friend who is a pilot. He enjoyed it.

I admire planes and pilots, normally enjoy reading about them. I subscribe to Smithsonian "Air and Space" magazine. But these stories are so lame, I could barely keep my eyes open. This book is in my opinion, unreadable.

This book gives you a great overview over a whole lot of great flying stories. After I finish reading this book, I will certainly get a hold of some of the books from which the excerpts in this book origin. It's a very pleasant read and I highly recommend it to anybody fascinated by aviation. Just one thing to keep in mind: Most of the stories date back some time, which gives them a bit of nostalgic touch.

It’s basically just a version of the original song. No storyline. I would return it but my baby likes some of the pictures. Only reason I’m keeping it and only reason I gave it two stars.

Like any other parent who's household is plagued with constant requests of "Baby Shark! Baby Shark! BABY SHARK!!!!" I thought this would be a great way to get my kiddo away from the screen and back to paper where I prefer them to be. I was disappointed at first to see the only for this was paperback, but meh, it's $6, let's give it a try. Well, that didn't last long, literally. The book unfortunately is made out of fairly thin paper, and it is especially too thin for the given demographic of Baby Shark. This needs a card stock/"Indestructibles" version. Also, and while I am sure this is for copyright reasons, the book is not the same as the forever ingrained lyrics of the song/video (Simple Songs for life!). However, while the book was still in one piece, it did serve my intentions, as when the little one asked for "Baby Shark" they were handed the book and life was peaceful and quiet, and then the 3 minutes were over.Overall Ratings -Durability: TerribleAccuracy: The Great Value Brand of knock offsBaby Shark: Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

This book is literally just the song lyrics with some cute pictures. No plot, no storyline. The illustrations are cute, so we'll probably keep it, but there is no substance whatsoever.

Very disappointing. This thin paperback book which i pre-ordered awhile back came in a giant box all by itself today, looks like it cost about $.50 to make... pages and cover thin and already wrinkled, it is just pictures with the song lyrics. Could have been so cute and well done.

My biggest complaint is that they omitted grandpa shark. I read it to my grandson and even be asks where is grandpa shark? It's also a very very thin book and tears easily. It looked like a sturdier cardboard more suitable for the age group of this material . Very dissapointed.

This was released right in the middle of the xmas Pink Fong version of baby shark explosion and sold out quick..It is thier own version of baby shark, but not the ones your kids are familiar with on youtube..Its cute and Im not planning to return it. We still read it but I have to change a few of the lines to keep my 2yo happy.
