I'm preparing for my first foray into wireless networking (yeah, I know, about time I got into the 21st century), and after online researching, was totally confused about where to start. I didn't even know enough to know what questions to ask.This handy little book went a long way toward helping me figure it all out. It assumes a basic knowledge of computers in general, but goes on to explain in plain English what wireless networking is, what it can do, and how you can do it. There are also little sidebars of more technical background information if you're so inclined, but you can ignore these and still get what you need to know from the main body of information.You will get good information on what equipment to buy (and not buy), how to set it up, pitfalls you may encounter, and much is written about the all-important wireless security measures you must take. Whether you simply want to network one desktop and one laptop, or go all out and turn your home into the Starship Enterprise, this book will help you.It does tend to get a little redundant in some areas, and of course there are the obligatory shameless plugs for other "dummies" books, but imo, these are not worth knocking a star off. And the authors readily admit that they are writing in generalities, as all homes and all systems are different, and have different requirements. So after reading this book, you will still need to do some further research to find specifically what works for you.But bottom line, I would highly recommend this book, whether you are a newbie to wireless, or just want to update yourself on the newest trends and technology. To me, it was well worth the price paid.

After years of dealing with the usual wire bundles under the desks, I decided to go wireless with my Macs. Although the maze of wires was a mess, at least there was some comfort in their their reliability and the thought of going wireless was a bit daunting.I have used many Dummies books in the past and decided to rely on one for my planned network. "Wireless Home Networking for Dummies" by Briere and Hurley filled the bill in an excellent manner. Some regard the thoroughness (some call it repetition) of Dummies books as a drawback but for the less-than-totally-expert technician, they are well and truly invaluable. Most contain some odd bits of humor which some regard as corny, but the lighter notes provide some comfort when feeling overwhelmed by a task.I was networking two new Intel Macs, a couple of printers and external drives, driven by an Apple Airport Extreme receiving signal from my internet provider's cable and my modem. Briere and Hurley guided me through the process, making sure that appropriate consideration was given to security through the use of names and passwords where advisable. The end result was a fully working network on the first try. Anybody driving by the house would need a large van full of decryption stuff to break into my network. Accommodation for a guest user of the network was provided as well as procedures for introducing Windows computers to the network.Although my interest was obviously Apple-related, the book is an equal-opportunity tome and thorough attention is given to constructing wireless networks around Windows-based equipment. This book is HIGHLY recommended.

First class book, but it could use some updating.Some obsolete technologies are discussed that could confuse some readers. Hubs and dial-up (not DSL) modems, for example, have not been on the market for many years. Similarly it has been a long time since since any laptops come without Wi-Fi already built in.I almost did not buy this excellent book because it has not been updated since 2010. Fortunately, however, wireless standards have not changed since 2010, so the book is still very useful.

You always want to learn more. Everyday, I try to learn one thing. I'm kind of a experimental guy with new things but wireless isn't new. I know my way around but wanted to learn more. Great books, the "Dummy" books. Make everything easy to understand. Great service also on the delivery.

I was disappointed with this book when I went looking for details. I got through to the internet easily, but when I tried to set things us for transferring files from my desktop to my laptop things got less messy. I got things to work but only once in a while. I wanted more substantial information than "just let the Wizard do it". I still can't get my two computers to reliably talk to each other, nor can I get my wife's laptop to join my home net.

'Wireless Home Networking for Dummies' gives the information needed tounderstand home networking and get your own system up and working. Itwould probably be best to read the first chapters of the book beforegoing out and purchasing any networking gear. The author explains what tolook for in new gear and points out compatibility problems with older gear.The book is well worth its cost.

I find that the trouble with standards is that they are in a constant state of change. Three of the chapters were very useful.

Insights into the politics, personalities and proclivities of the justices are both amusing and enlightening. Even though the book is now nearly 40 years old, and all the protagonists have passed on (excepting Justice Stevens), the writing is engaging, the issues timeless, and the insights unique. If you are into politics or court history, this book is a must read.

This is an excellent book and very thought provoking. It is a slow read because of the dryness of the material, but the characters are well defined and it is an inside look at how the Court functioned at the time Burger was Chief Justice, and Nixon was President. It is interesting that of the 3 sections of our government, we're all pretty familiar with how the President and the Congress operate, but mostly in the dark about the operations of the Supreme Court. I really enjoyed the book and feel like I have a better understanding of the Court's procedures.

In the Brethren, Woodward uses his insider credentials, and incredible set of sources to break the wall of silence that generally surrounds the inner working of the Supreme Court. Woodward can get just about anyone to talk to him, and that is never more clear than in this book. He's got direct quotes from meetings where there were only five people in attendance. It's amazing.This book is focused on the Burger court, when a Nixon appointed judge was tried to stem the type of progressive judicial activism the Warren court was known for. This book is fascinating for any one interested in what was happening inside the court during those important years. This book is worth reading for the fascinating back story of how Roe v. Wade got decided, but on top of that it provides gives us fascinating portrayals of some of modern histories most important justices, including William Brennan, Thurgood Marshall, Harry Blackmun, and William Rhenquist.This is a must read for anyone interested in the inner workings of the Supreme Court, or the controversies surrounding the death penalty and Roe v. Wade.

This book might seem dated: it describes the machinations of the court from 1969 to 1976, which included, among other things, Roe v. Wade and the Watergate tapes case. However, it is far from obsolete. The Brethren is a still-unprecedented look into the Supreme Court, the most secretive top-level branch of government. Although the faces (save one) and the cases are different, the way in which cases are decided by this body has likely not, plus it is a look at a tumultous time in ours as well as the Court's history.The focus of the story is Chief Justice Warren Earl Burger, who replaces Earl Warren after his retirement. The irony of the names is unexplored, but it is appropriate, because Burger becomes progressively preoccupied with trying to match Warren's legacy. Unlike Warren, though, he allows political concerns and vanity to influence his judgment and, bit by bit, erode the confidence of his colleagues, to the point where the late William Rehnquist, then a young conservative on the Court, makes fun of him behind his back. Although this book is unflattering to some of the justices, such as Thurgood Marshall, who is noted as lazy and uninvolved and Byron White, who is noted to be unlikeable, Burger is the biggest loser here. The book was published in the early 80s, only a few years before Burger left the court, and the image of him as a pompous, preening, intellectually deficient and generally clueless politician cost him, big time. In spite of the landmark rulings his Court made, he was unable to reverse the Warren Court's liberal activism (as he had hoped to do). His "Minnesota Twin", Harry Blackmun, would drift further away from him, both politically and personally, until finally becoming the most liberal justice after the departure of Thurgood Marshall in 1991. Burger's Macchiavellian strategizing to assign opinions caused such a backlash that, at one point, William Brennan decides to vote for whatever side of a case puts him in the minority so that Burger won't be able to assign him another crappy oppinion.Ultimately, Burger had good intentions, but his blunders dominate the book. He is a fascinating character, almost as bad a manager and as delusional as David Brent from the recent BBC TV Series The Office. Some of the principals come out looking good: Potter Stewart, for example, and Brennan also. But Rehnquist comes out best, in spite of some scheming and obfuscation. Burger, though, is front and center, and he's a reminder of how we're to seriously we all should take the business of the Court.

I gave it one star, only because no minus stars were offered. In point of fact, this title borders on fraud. Oh, there were a few questionable recopies on instapot breakfast, the book was not about breakfast recipes, nor were they even in the majority. My impression was, a less than stellar (just being kind) book that probably failed in it's original effort tried to repackage itself as something it clearly was not.I've been ripped off for a lot more money in the past, for a much better product, but it was simply not worth the effort to request a refund.If you have already purchased the book, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, don't.

There is an awesome cookbook which is known as breakfast in an instant pot cookbook with modern and quick recipes. I would say that for me making breakfast with new variety was earlier difficult but this cookbook has solved my this issue while providing a good amount of morning meal recipes.

I thought this book would be all breakfast recipes. To my disappointment, this book had very few breakfast recipes..unless of course you eat lunch or dinner food for breakfast.

This is not a breakfast recipe only cookbook, it actually starts with pasta recipes. If book were titled correctly I would give it 4 stars, has some interesting recipes in it but very few breakfast

I downloaded this book bc of the title. I was expecting it to be full of breakfast dishes. There is only one chapter for breakfast and I don't like the layout of the chapters either. I dont reccomend unless you are just looking for any kind of recipe.

One of my three favorite books of the summer.The concept of antifragile is amazing. It will provide the more random areas of your life with a justification that may not exist. Although Taleb builds on earlier books regarding randomness and black swans, the content of this book can easily stand by itself. I should warn you though, if you are like me, I went back and bought several of his earlier books.I read the kindle version and listened the it on Audible too. The only thing I did not like about this was that the Kindle version did not have page numbers in it unlike many current Kindle books. This is not Kindle's fault. I did love the way that the reader in Audible read the references as part of the text. Readers so often overlook footnotes and references.Reading on Kindle was fabulous. The ability to link references and people makes the reading a better experience.Okay, if you are going to read this book please extend the experience. Think YouTube too. Here's an example of what I mean - http://youtu.be/_MYTFWCbDKQ. If you watch this you'll see how much extended value there can be in this kind of activity. Okay, I know what you're thinking, you think you can just go to YouTube and watch. Of course you can. Be the book is better and the book will help you become selective.Two last things:1) successful fragilistas won't like Taleb - but they too should know his messages.2) some of his behavior will appear pompous and arrogant. So what, it is the content and if his personality turns you off during interviews and presentations, read the book. His content to too good to miss.Now, if you care, my two other favorites for this summer were, "A fighting Chance" and "the Goldfinch". I wonder what Mr. Taleb would think of being in this group?

To reveal creeping determinism, or `abstract blindness' I am reminded of the WWII bombers that returned from German bomb runs. The ones that returned were all shot-up and full of holes. The General asked, `what can we do to protect the bombers'? A smart mathematician said put extra armor where there are "no" holes. Where There are No Holes! Of course, Antifragile and the work of the author are about being aware of the unintended consequences that we can not see, or even contemplate.When looked thru the lens of abstract blindness, one realizes that the bombers that did not return were the ones with holes in them that no one could see. This dove tails into the Antifragile's frequent reminder that absence of evidence (of harm), is not the same as evidence of absence -- meaning (in my view) just because there is 30 years of data that says it has never happened before does not mean it will not happen. This is the turkey's view prior to Thanksgiving Day problem - from Black Swan.As for Seneca's Asymmetry, if you have more to lose than benefit from fate then you are fragile. Seneca's practical counter to being fragile was to go through mental exercises to write off possessions, so when losses occurred he would not feel the sting. I would only suggest this book if you have a lot of patience and determination to make sense of the authors code. The source code has bugs, and many many memory leaks. It isn't even formatted correctly. In order to make sense of it, I had to tab and format it correctly. Not fun. There are much easier ways to do animation than what the book describes. If you really want to know how X files work then get this book, otherwise skip it.

I buy this book because I can not find another book whit animation on direct x, but you need install the direct x sdk 9 to run the examples, and a good video card, if you not, show you many error of memory, in some cases this book are helpfully if you not have any idea how to made an animation or cloth simulation, I recommend this book for a start into direct animation, the book only help you to take a path to start into game develop, because are very hard to find a book how to show you made animations, there is many things and ideas you can save from this book to use like a guide for a start.

First of all the retail price of the book is too much. The last section (video on texture and cloth simulation) which he thinks are the most advanced are just pretty lame. He could have better described how to export a skinned mesh better. The ragdoll effect as given is not combined with an animated model making it a bit less useful. The book does cover a lot on using skeletal animation that was definately not covered in other books that I've bought on the subject. I'm also glad that it has no intro to DX section. PS: Who wrote the 5 star review, the author?

Advanced Animation with DirectX is not a good book at all. The author did a terrible job on the skinned animation parts and the later parts of the book is just plain bad. The beginning was ok but the code was not right. I tried to implement some of the stuff at the beginning and it didn't work. When I sat down and thought about the problem at hand and how to do it, I got everything working smoothly without using anything that was done is the book (which means the book was a waste of money). Who ever gave this book 5 out of 5 stars must be the author or a friend.

The timing of this book's release is unfortunate because Microsoft made huge changes to DirectX 9 during 2004. As a result, the code in this book is completely obsolete today.
