It has been many years since I had read this book for the first time and I found it very interesting and very sad as I did the first time I had read it. I had read this book in the late 1980's when it first came out, it had been a ground breaking book about a forgotten group of people that were persecuted in the concentration camps of Germany, and in some ways the general public in the conquered territories of the Third Reich. This group was of course, the wearer of the pink triangle, in other words, the homosexual population of Germany.What had struck me this time while reading it was how little things have changed. The author had written back then how little is said about the plight of people who were branded homosexual, and it seems that this is still a subject rarely broached today in books written about World War II. While there is a handful of books written about this subject, it obviously comes no where close to the amount of material written about the atrocities committed against the Jews, gypsies, clericals, and Jehovah Witnesses. These atrocities at the hands of the SS and other police agencies were horrific and widespread in all captured Nazi territories. No one seemed to come to the defense of homosexuals, not even their families. This was a tragedy to read about.While this is a complex social issue to this day, it seems that society has forgotten the people who suffered horribly, and the subject needs more indepth coverage then this rather brief book. This is a good start, but I am sure there are many stories that are yet to be told. The fact that the author could only find a few poeple that would speak on the record about what they experienced, (with changed names), speaks volumes about how homosexuallity was viewed in the post war period. You could still be "branded with the pink star" in society, and lose your job, lose your friends, and lose face if people found out you were a homosexual. There were people who had very little sympathy for gays then, and even today, its a touchy subject in 2013 for some.The last chapter of this book was interesting, the author talks about his personal experience seeking out friends who were either Jews or homosexuals in Germany after the war. This book seemed like a personal writing assignment for him in every way. In some ways, its refreshing to see such emotions written into a book that's suppose to be a historical writtings, and on the other hand, some might find the author a little to emotional for a historian. Historians are taught to write without personal feelings, and to look at every thing from a detached point of view, while capturing and reporting truths, no matter where your research takes you. This historian admits that this is a very personal issue for him to do that, and I admire his tenacity to defend why he wrote this book in this manner.Finally, very interesting and enlightening if you are not familiar with the plight of the homosexual in the war. I think you will find it worth reading.

I didn't know what to except but was pleasantly surprised. Beware this is not like other books on the subject matter. It ius written not as a story but rather an essay there is very little feeling and even less details that usually keeps me up after reading a book luije this. But that us a good thing. Incredible knowledge if the subject matter. A must read !

this book gave a sense of pride to know that those that came before me suffered the injustice of murder and slave labor in the camps. the memorial that was build for those that were murdered in the camps im proud to be a gay man today and I thank them that suffered so I can be free of persecution and live in the land of the free and home of the brave may they rest in peace and may god bless all who die in the camps and at the hands of the Nazis.

Depressing as hell. But I did like the book.... A must read for some of the younger generations that have no idea about the degree of persecution faced by homosexuals in the past.I was born in the mid-seventies and I have never faced any serious adversity due to my sexuality. I even came on the tail end of the worst of the AIDS crisis. I only know about the struggles faced by gays and lesbians in the past because I read about them. I am afraid there will come a time when people will equate the historic struggles of gays with marriage equality and national hate crime legislation and no one will even think back to the time when just being suspected of being a sexual deviant could get you put in torture camps or killed in gas chambers.

An incredible book revealing a forgotten past of discrimination and bigotry unmatched by anything since towards a group of people who even today are easy targets of the same discrimination that kept them imprisoned by the WW2 era Nazis long after the liberation of other inmates and concentration camp survivors.

I’ll try to give a review without explaining too much on the scenario, it is in the synopsis anyway. Instead I’ll focus on what I liked and disliked so other fans of romantic sci-fi can make a choice on whether to pass it or give it a chance.At first, the story started so well: strong female lead with interesting history, unusual occupation and seemingly strong character. Even quite cliche alien abduction did not phase me as writing was done masterfully. And later introduction of mysterious hero, as events unfolded, went smoothly as well.However, something happened at one scene at the pool after which events stopped making sense or look believable (ok, I know that sci-fi is unbelievable by definition but still...). The heroine suddenly transformed into witless wimp following only her hormones and beautiful dark grey derrière of her admirer (one would think that his muscles were described enough but I was meeting the passages about their impossible-to-resist beauty again and again). The hero was not much better, as author suddenly left his inner world and motivations for the reader to guess about, leaving only questionable actions behind. And bam! - suddenly they are both in love and can’t leave without each other. Well, come on...Sadly, I left the book at appr. 50%.So perhaps my review is not an honest one. But I simply cannot waste my time for the piece which lost its “magic” for me.

Thank goodness for authors who are willing to take the time and effort to convert their fabulous ideas into books! Stephanie West not only has amazingly creative ideas, but is also a wee bit kinky and I love it. It is very rare to have a book of this length without many areas that drag. With rare exception there were no parts that became boring (perhaps one or two erotic scenes towards the end, when I just wanted to know what happened next), and I had a hard time putting the book down once I started.Although there are a smattering of editing misses through the book understanding is not hampered. The writing in Nameless Fate shows marked improvement over previous books, . Mainly it is just such a riveting story, with strong characters, and a fascinating world. I sure would love to see a picture of Zaftan and Blaidd - it's particularly difficult for me to picture Zaftan, who is apparently a species that looks like elephants. The supporting characters do add a lot of entertainment to the story.Now to wait for Blaidd's story to come out. That should be fun!

What a fantastic book, a re-read for sure, you can't help but being sucked into the story from the 1 page, this book was EPIC, Harper was a strong character along with Nameless, what a pair and what adventures they had. The other characters in the story were just wonderful and surprising hero I did not see that one coming. If you like Sci-fi romance you will love this book, do not let it pass you by. There is only one problem, now the wait begins for the next one, I hope ms. West is finding time to focus on that book you must keep writing and hopefully it will become a full time job, you have a talent that needs to shouted out!

First off, I like Stephanie West’s writings. I think she has promise. That being said, the beginning of this story, how our heroine, Harper, was a volunteer for a medical study of birthmarks, was a bit weak. The birthmark was a good idea, just the medical study part just didn’t seem to fit her schedule of stakeouts and catching crooks. As the story progresses, the story gets better, the story and characters come alive. And the characters Stephanie brings to us are very creative. When the end came, I wasn’t ready. I wanted more. And that is a sign of a good writer. I look forward to more of Stephanie’s works.

The cancer study to find the birthmark didn't work for me but I guess finding her was "fate". There were a few other things but I don't want to give away spoilers and the birthmark quest happens at the beginning. I like that Harper was strong and smart, not a simpering woman. Nameless was great. The editing could use some work. There were a few wrong words that would be easily missed by spell check.

Harper is kidnapped and taken to another planet. She says no to being a sex slave and breeder, so she is out in a horrible prison. Nameless protects her and makes her his even though she isn't always happy about it. Plenty of action and romance with a lot of sex thrown in. Hea

I love the idea of being thrown in prison such as the main female character was. I loved the world that the author built. it was interesting to see the inmates and how there was essentially a world within another. I loved the characters and the development. The female character is strong without being overbearing. great read

I really enjoyed the story line of this book. Aliens abduct female has been used many times but the story line is not like any other. Well developed characters. Loved the heroine Harper. Strong intelligent female. Loved Nameless. He was the main male character who has beaten the odds living life in the Hold. When these two come together it's fireworks! There are many supporting roles in the book that have great potential for their own books if this becomes a series. Definite must read!

I've been getting these calendars every year for the past few years and they don't disappoint. In my humble opinion, nothing livens up a plain wall more than a calendar with swimsuit photos of the beautiful ladies from Sports Illustrated.

Girls in bikinis what could be better. Spots Illustrated does this sort of calendar very well. The girls are lovely and the scenery is nice too.

Herbert Zettl is a professor emeritus of the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University (SFSU). While at San Francisco State University, he headed the Institute of International Media Communication and received the California State Legislature Distinguished Teaching Award and, from the Broadcast Education Association, the Distinguished Education Service Award. Prior to joining the SFSU faculty, Zettl worked at KOVR (Stockton-Sacramento) and as a producer-director at KPIX, the CBS affiliate in San Francisco. While at KPIX, he participated in a variety of CBS and NBC network television productions. Because of his outstanding contributions to the television profession, he was elected to the prestigious Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), Northern California Chapter. He also is a member of the Broadcast Legends of the NATAS, Northern California Chapter. Zettl has authored VIDEO BASICS, VIDEO BASICS WORKBOOK, TELEVISION PRODUCTION HANDBOOK, and SIGHT SOUND MOTION, which are translated into several languages and published internationally. His numerous articles on television production and media aesthetics have appeared in major media journals worldwide. He has lectured extensively on both subjects at universities and professional broadcast institutions both nationally and internationally. Zettl developed an interactive DVD-ROM, ZETTL'S VIDEOLAB 4.0, published by Wadsworth Cengage, a part of Cengage Learning. His previous CD-ROM version won several prestigious awards, among them the Macromedia People's Choice Award, the New Media Invision Gold Medal for Higher Education, and Invision Silver Medals in the categories of Continuing Education and Use of Video.

Provides some supplemental information to instructor's lecture but could have not purchased it. Price was about 10% of bookstore so it was worth purchasing as a reference. It was useful for more in depth understanding of some topics. Keep if you plan a career in TV or Video production.

I bought this for my teenage son who is interested in media production as a possible career choice. He started out just reading it for fun, and is now finding useful tips in it for the documentary he's making for his social studies class. It's a bit pricey new, but if you can find a good used copy this is a worthwhile book.

This is definitely a yes if you're going into anything relating to Journalism!

Text gets down to business quickly and informs you about eveyrthing involved in TV production from soup to nuts! I bought this for a TV production class and it helped me stay ahead of the curve in class. I got an A, so it served it's purpose and I will hold onto it as a basic reference guide in my bookcase.

I bought this for my television production class, the book was in fine condition and the price was a bargain.

College textbooks are the biggest ripoff. I brought this for my son. I always look for used first, rent next, and new last.

The first few pages were written on as stated in the description but this didn't turn out to be a problem for me. The book is overly in good condition.

Best nursing purchase ever! It far exceeded my expectations. If your facility requires you to do the courses online, this pocket guide will be a huge help. Since our hospital no longer buys the book to help get through the online courses, this pocket guide was a God send. The book is online on Healthstreams, but it is not practical to not have an open book when going through scenarios. This pocket guide has scenarios, along with EKG strips and descriptions along with the important text information. I wish I had it when doing the PALS. I now can look forward to doing ACLS on line now that I have this pocket guide. The pocket guide is already being a huge help getting my telemetry readings interpreted. This pocket guide is a must if you have to do ACLS, PALS or CPR on line without a book.

I found this to be a great resource for getting up to speed on Core Data after a while away from it.It's easy to skip around to concepts you need some work on. I was able to read the well written high level theory portions of some topics, and go a little deeper with the full tutorials on others.Of note is that full featured sample projects are included with the book. The code is very good quality - I learned a bit in general about Swift 3 reading it. I was able to use quite a bit of the CD code in my own project.I read the PDF version, and just ordered a print copy.

Whether you're completely new to Core Data or have some experience with it in the past, this book is great. I takes you from the very basic concepts of data management for Apple devices, to more complex topics such as boosting the performance of your apps, testing your Core Data models, and synchronizing across devices with Apple's iCloud.As mentioned in previous reviews; if you are already familiar with some topics you can easily skip a chapter or two without missing the bigger picture. The sample code provided with the book is of a very high quality and follows the latest and greatest trends in the Swift ecosystem.I not only learned a ton about Core Data, but also a lot about programming in Swift in general.
