Bill W was one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, the 12-step group that has saved many a life and family. How he got the wisdom? Well, that is a miracle. The main book, of course, is the Big Book, but here we have selections from Bill's other writing.I've long had a copy but these small pages never meant as much to me as they do now. You see, I purchased a number of used copies because a group I belong to was starting a meeting based on this book. We read one page each meeting and then members comment on that. It is working out beautifully, very spiritually, just as folks with prior experience with the same said it would.If we had to purchase more, the more expensive new copies, I think I would ask the group to buy the large print version for the benefit of aging eyes. The print here is kinda small.

This book is broken into subjects, each page has its own topic, for example "resentment', and how to deal with it. There are 361 pages, easy to read. There is a table of contents at the beginning that shows page number(s) for a particular subject. Very useful and handy book to have.

This title with quotes from the writing of Bill (one of the founders of AA) is essential for the recovering Alcoholic. It can be used as inspirational reading by an individual and it can be used as a base for discussion in an AA group. I have found it helpful and enlightening. And as a Christian, I have found that the words are in agreement with scripture. Not at all "preachy" but very humble with much wisdom. There is an excellent subject index in the front that pulls together the writings on a relevant subject. Each entry is one page long. So this little gem could be used as a "devotional". Highly recommended. Larry

My daughter has learned so much from this book in a very short amount of time. Her sketches have really become more detailed and realistic. It was exactly what I had been searching for to help her with light, shadows and shading. She is 13 years old. It's easy for her to understand and follow. My older daughter is 15 years old and she has also used the book to learn a few things. It's not specifically targeted for children or any specific age group. I think it would be helpful and useful for all ages. I highly recommend this book!

this book is a masterpiece and a gem. the keys for learning drawing is all here. I read many art books but this book is the only one that make me finally get it! I was struggling with perspective and the author with few simple lines just explains it all! juts like that! and I was like O_Ojust get it specially if you are a serious beginner or struggling and you won't regret it. just follow what he says and just do it.

I have many drawing texts and this one quickly became one of my favorites.Drawing is so intuitive and other than having a live teacher, classes or a Udemy course this is the best in line.It is practical in orientation and not 'artsy, farsty' like too many other publications.

Read a lot of the reviews on both books. How to Draw What You See, seems to be a classic - maybe slightly outdated but still solid techniques. Many teacher reviews & comments of "good for beginners."Unfortunately we didn't see the Dec 26, 2013 4-star review by Debbie where she said, ". . . there are SEVERAL NUDES (page 97) in the section on figure drawing so might not be appropriate for all ages" . . . . My son happened to find it before giving it to him and managed to provide a "cover up" sweater.

So I thought this book would be some of the basic drawing styles, but wow did it open my eyes to all kinds of new things. Shading and proper ways to hold a pencil and such. I always thought that drawing was easy, but I never knew it was this interesting and technically challenging. Love the book. Buy it.

A great "Go To" book, for those that need a bit of a refresher on drawing skills, or strengthen them. I found this a keeper, somethings were often intimidating to draw, this book gets you past, it.

This is "old school" information, which I appreciate. In fact, there is a drawing of a doll called "Poor Pitiful Pearl" who was popular about 60 years ago. This is a good general book for beginners/intermediate. There are lessons in perspective, landscapes, figures and more. The only part of the book I thought was lacking was figure drawing. Overall, the information is helpful.

I admit I bought this one for myself, too! My son loves it as much as I did and it's in board book form so I can leave it in his room (he's 18 months) and not have to worry he'll tear the pages. I could read this book over and over - we read it three times last night. It's condensed from the original story but just the right amount so it can keep a toddler's interest. I like it because it has words and scenes that aren't in any other of his board books. We love Madeline, the bravest littlest French girl at Miss Clavel's house!

Great shorter adaptation of the original - perfect for my younger kiddos who don't have the attention span yet to sit through the entire story. Board book was a plus as I don't quite trust my 1 1/2 year old with any other kind yet ;)

The book is abridged. About 8 pages of pictures and text were completely removed. As a result, the story takes abrupt jumps that require you to stop and get back on track. Also, the rhythm of the poem is interrupted. I had this book as a child and feel the abridge version spoils the story. However, it is a board book that can put up with rough use from my grandchildren. I decided to keep it and buy the unabridged version when they get older. I decided that an introduction to the story is better than not having heard it at all.

This is a nice board book version of Madeline. It is abridged, but the missing pages/passages were well chosen. It's missing the part where Dr. Cohn dials DAN-ton ten six, and some of the single-line pages are combined.

I love Madeline. I had the dolls and movies while growing up so I got this book for my baby girl. She loves looking at the pictures. The size is really nice because it's not small or too big.

Pretty illustrations in a well made classic book. Very retro, in a good way.

A dear friend just had a little girl and named her Madeline, so it gave me an excuse to gift her the Yottoy My Friend Madeline 10" Soft Doll and this Madeline board book - I didn't know they made a board book of this wonderful story. I'm delighted to be able to share what was one of my daughter's favorites with a new generation.

Great book, but needs to be updated. Another one that's extremely expensive. Although it needs updating, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I definitely recommend it to any social work student or anyone else who is interested in mental illness and a culture sensitive approach to working with culturally diverse client populations.

The book provides great insight where there was minimal concern before.

This is one of the best books addressing the interaction between different cultures and mental illness. It is excellent! It is comprehensive and includes a section on anxiety disorders too.

Castillo's book is a short and good read. My one comment is that some of the research included in the book is a little outdated. I think it might be time to come out with a new edition...

As I am familiar with much of the psychology literature, which can sometimes become to scientific without clout, Culture and Mental Illness clearly explains each section covered in the book. The Author uses important terms and definition with clarity as to what subject is in discussion as well as reference to DSM's diagnosis, prognosis, implications of medical symptoms, behavior and attitudes, and treatment. All culturally contextual.Before reading this book I had plans to resell it. However, after reading this book, I am keeping it, and not because I wrote in it or highlighted everywhere in it, but, because it is easy for me to understand what the author is saying.

Bought this book for my Psychopathology and Mental Illness class. Very informative, but I was not a fan of the structure and lay out. It made it a bit difficult to follow at times.

I read only about half the book. I needed it for a class, but it a great read. The book arrived on time with no issues.

This is a great book.. and the reading is very easy to understand and it is not boring as some books are. It is good enough to keep after the class ends and do not plan on selling this book back.. It is a must have for your collection.
