Absolutely awesome book. I could not put it down! It is one of the best books I have ever read. I am now on the 2nd book in the series. It really let you in on the heartache that the families of the victims of 9/11 must have felt at not knowing what happened to their loved ones. They were on such an emotional roller coaster from not knowing at first, to not being able to have a body to have closure, to the possibility of their loved ones remains never being found. I just can't imagine the heartache. The story of Jamie and Jake was a true and inspiring love story, and I loved Jake's faith in God and his never ending hope and faith that Jamie would believe. Even though he didn't get to see it in this lifetime she did and started giving that faith to others that endured tragedy on 9/11. It was a very inspiring book. It inspired me to read my bible more and pray more. I cried like a baby at the end for Sierra and Eric. It was just such a hard and tragic thing they had to go through. Karen Kingsbury is a wonderful writer!
I like the first book in here. One Tuesday Morning deserves a 4-5 star review. Starts strong, finishes okay, the journey in between is good. An all around good read.Beyond Tuesday morning, well, it's a 2 or three star book. The author can't help but tell you, repeatedly, that this is a sequel. She rehashes the plot of the first book so many dang times. I read the first book! Don't tell me its plot for the umpteenth time. Downside of this, anyone who's read the 2nd book won't feel the need to read the first. You'll already know the plot. She never uses 9-11 in the book with her main cast. Even in causal conversation, it's always referred to as September 11. An odd thing to notice, but all her conversation between characters feels formal. Especially the primary pairing of the story. Very little passion between them. There was more passion between the not quite pair in the first book. I'm left feeling this book was forced into being, something to bridge the gap between books 1 and 3.Which goes right into my third major problem with it. She's never overly wordy, but she does use 10 where 7 would do. A little too descriptive, but not into purple prose territory. It does, however, get to be annoying. Everything is deep or hard to find or coming from a distant place in one's soul and yeah. Just stop. Please. It doesn't help that Jamie is stuck in some sort of mode where she feels she must prove her Christian faith. And she goes on and on about it, and it feels forced! It's like the character is reminding herself she's supposed to be Christian, not that she is Christian. Her, being new to the faith, makes some sense, but not to this extent. This is where most of her words are wasted and I'm left feeling like Jamie hasn't grown at all and isn't comfortable with her faith. If this story was set 3 years earlier, right after Eric went home, or 2 years earlier, I'd believe Jamie's struggles more. Praying for guidance and getting all but smacked in the face with an answer to one's prayers AND questioning it makes sense, but every freaking time? Really? Gah!Can you tell Jamie is bugging me as a character? Which stinks as she's the main character. What kind of mother invites a man into her home and lets him into her daughter's bedroom after knowing him less than a week!!!!???? Yes, it was for prayer, but that's even worse. Know him less than a week and he's pulling daddy duty? Really?I keep telling myself Romance books are like this, but no. Jamie broke the cardinal rule of single moms. I just...I'm done. Just done.
The only possible negatives in this set of 9/11 stories are the statistically astronomical coincidences on which the plots hinge. If you can accept those - and my five stars tell you I can and do - you will find another incredible Karen Kingsbury tale. Depth of characters, insight into the human condition and faith in God, and heart-tugging emotion characterize these books as I've found typical in this author's writing. When a book leaves me begging for another peek into the characters' futures, when I have been moved to tears and joy, and when my faith has been both reaffirmed and challenged, I call that a successful story.
This book was very intense in places. So much so that I had to put it down to breathe. But at the end I could not put it down. The reader could predict what would happen, but the emphasis was not plot so much as character development. So the thing that held my interest was the question, “How and when will the characters learn what I know?†I loved this book and am looking forward to reading the sequel.
This book had a wonderful story and was told very, very slowly. It is not Kingsbury's best book, it was too long by half. Not that a long book is a bad thing, but this one was long because it had way too much rumination, repetition and bad, over-cute conversation. The characters were excellent, but always talking or ruminating. Or giggling. Everyone was giggling, even men. How about laughing or chuckling? Always over-cute, like the conversations. Worst of all were the insane coincidences! I'm a believer and know how God moves in our lives, but the events in this book were just so pat and would boggle anyone's mind - or make one giggle!
4.5 starsThis story takes me back to that fateful day on September 11. I was in computer class at north like when the teachers turned on the tv for our class to witness the worst terrorist attack that we had ever seen.I was compelled by this story of events that took place and a deeply rooted Christian story that very well could have taken place. It answers questions about God and faith that so very many have about death and tragic events while running home the main point of keeping our eyes on Jesus throughout our lives each and every day and trying to become more like him each day.Jakes story will resonate with you during this book and long after. I strongly recommend!
